When can I change my Medicare plan?

The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) runs October 15 through December 7 each year. During AEP you can switch Medicare Advantage plans, switch from Medicare Advantage back to Original Medicare, or change your Part D drug plan — changes take effect January 1. There is also an Open Enrollment Period for Medicare Advantage from January 1 through March 31, during which you can make one plan change. Outside these windows, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period due to life events such as moving, losing other coverage, or qualifying for Extra Help.
